Copenhagen, 10 reasons to love it

A CITY IN FLOWER
'Florist' is a definition that does not do justice to Tage Andersen. Visiting his shop is a bit like stepping into a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, because Tage is a true artist, with a career of more than 40 years behind him. And the word 'brilliant' is the best to describe his art! Start your discovery here: tage-andersen.com.

A BEAUTIFUL BEACH
Hard to find Copenhagen in your top ten beach destinations, yet less than five kilometres south of the centre lies one of Denmark's most beautiful beaches. We're talking about Amager Strandpark, a long white expanse winding between dunes and hidden lagoons. Be careful, though: you need arms of steel and a wetsuit for the cold to swim.

FOOD IS ITS VOICE
The capital's culinary reputation took a leap forward in 2010, when Réné Redzepi's Noma was named Best Restaurant in the World by the influential Restaurant Magazine. Of course, this is just one of the choices. Also not bad is 1.th, near the waterfront, where Mette Martinussen awaits you for an unforgettable experience somewhere between party and live performance.

LIFE IS FREE
The free community of Christiania is both loved and hated in Copenhagen. It depends on your point of view. Founded in 1971 by a group of hippies, it covers over 300,000 m2 and follows its own rules and regulations. There is a bicycle shop, a school, jazz clubs and cafés, but Christiania is above all a mecca for artists. Over the years it has risked being dismantled several times due to the transgressive behaviour of its inhabitants. Odi et amo is the right mood for this utopia on earth.

AND SWEETS ITS GLORY
Copenhagen's bakeries are full of them, but try asking for a 'Danish' and they will answer with an astonished smile. The fact is that here it is called Wienerbrød, because it was introduced in the mid-19th century by Viennese confectioners. the best ones are filled with cream and covered in icing and can be found at La Glace (3-5 Skoubogade). Slurp!

ART KNOWS NO BORDERS
Inside the Arken (Skovvej 1, Ishøj), the landmark museum for contemporary art in the city, piles of rubble line the walls, while every surface is covered in spray paint. The spectacle is impressive and the hand, if one can call it that, is that of German artist Katharina Grosse. To be seen to be believed.

ITS CANALS
It is impossible to talk about Copenhagen without a tribute to its canals. They were laid out between the 18th and 19th centuries, when the city's wealth depended on trade. Although the great merchant ships are a thing of the past, watching the sun slowly descend on these waterways is one of the most beautiful experiences in the city.

BEER,A SERIOUS THING
Hard to find a Dane who doesn't love beer. One of our favourite places to enjoy it is the micro-brewery Nørrebro Bryghus (Ryesgade 3), whose mission is 'To make Danes proud of their beer culture'. Success is assured.

PANORAMI MOZZAFIATO
Built as an observatory in 1642, the Rundetaarn is one of the city's landmarks. From here there is an unparalleled view of Copenhagen's red rooftops. From the street, a ramp spirals up to the tower. An experience to walk up it, but the best awaits you at the top. Where to find the Rundetaarn? Købmagergade 52A.

SMØRREBRØD MANIA
Slices of rye bread covered in meat, smoked fish, cheese or pate: this wonderful 'sandwich' has been the best companion for Danish lunches since time immemorial. For connoisseurs, there are at least two references in town: Ida Davidsen (Store Kongensgade 70) and Aamanns (Øster Farimagsgade 10). The former has been an institution since 1888, the latter interprets tradition in a modern key, but without giving up a crumb, it has to be said, of quality.
